How much does liposuction cost?

By

Most men and women want to look better and one way to improve the looks is liposuction. But the first question they would usually ask is how much does liposuction cost? The fact is it is pretty difficult to estimate the cost of liposuction since there is no general procedure which this surgery. The cost of liposuction varies from state to state, surgeon to surgeon and it also depends on type and nature of liposuction required.

The liposuction cost will depend on various factors like the area of the body involved; the qualifications, experience, and expertise of the surgeon you select; the geographic location of the surgeon; the time and effort expected for the procedure; your overall size, health condition, and age; and other factors like the anesthesiologist’s fee. If there is only one area which needs this treatment, the cost will be lower than multiple areas. There are various types of liposuction like - chin liposuction, thigh liposuction, plastic surgery liposuction, tumescent liposuction, abdomen liposuction etc and the cost of each one of these will vary.

The cost component of liposuction surgery may include the following:

  • the fee for the surgeon
  • the fee for the anesthesiologist
  • the fee for the use of the operating room and equipment costs.

There are many different kinds of liposuction being advertised - Smart lipo, Cool lipo, Ultrasonic lipo, Vaser lipo, etc. But you should understand that it is not the technique that is important, it is the quality of the surgeon!

Liposuction is one the most common cosmetic surgeries being performed today all over the country. Since the fees is not uniform and vary from state, surgeon and other surgery costs, it is extremely difficult to estimate the cost upfront. Apart from the fees of the surgeon, the post surgery costs could be as high as $2000. The surgeon fees alone vary a lot depending upon the area of surgery. Here are just a few examples:

  • Upper and lower abdomen from about $3,000 to about $7,500
  • Upper and lower arms from about $1,500 to about $5,000
  • Female breasts from about $3,000 to about $7,500
  • Male breasts from about $3,000 to about $5,000
  • Chin, cheeks, jowls, and neck from about $2,000 to about $4,500
  • Buttocks from about $1,500 to about $4,500
  • Hips and waist from about $1,600 to about $5,000.

As you can see the range of fees can range anywhere from $1500 to as high as $7500. To get an accurate estimate, it is necessary to have a consultation with a surgeon and to receive a written quote of the expected fees.

But cost of liposuction should not be the sole factor for you while determining the surgeon from whom you want the surgery done. Since the surgery is a permanent procedure, a cheap liposuction surgery performed by an experienced surgeon will do more harm than good. It is better to choose the surgeon based on his reputation and experience rather than the fees which he charges. Many times, people would save a few thousand dollars by getting the surgery done by a local inexperienced surgeon only to find later that they are not happy with the results at all. Therefore the liposuction cost should not be the main basis for your choice of surgeon.

Also keep in mind that liposuction is a cosmetic surgery therefore the expenses related to this surgery will not be covered by health insurance except in certain cases. For example, female breast liposuction surgery is often covered by insurance because surgical breast reduction often relieves chronic pain of the back and shoulders. Similarly, some insurance companies will cover the some cost surgery for treat of subcutaneous lipomas.

Always do some research on the internet and take feedback from people who have gone through this procedure earlier. Make sure what type of surgery you want and from whom before asking the question - how much does liposuction cost?
